Can I get a MINECON cape now?

No. All five required attending a physical event between 2011 and 2016.

No. A mod shows a cape to you and to anyone running the same mod. It is not on your account and nobody else sees it.

Will Mojang reissue old capes?

They have not done so, and reissuing would undermine the point of an event exclusive. Treat retired as permanent.

Can I buy an account with a cape?

Accounts do change hands. It is worth understanding what you are buying and how the handover is structured before any money moves.

How to get a Minecraft capethe honest answer

You cannot craft a cape, buy one from Mojang, or earn one by playing. Capes are granted, and most of the grants closed years ago.

What is still open

The Pan cape is the straightforward case: it is granted to players rather than tied to a closed event, and it is still handed out.

Beyond that, the realistic route is to be present for the next promotion. Mojang runs these through events, anniversaries and campaigns, and they are announced through official channels. If you are not there while the window is open, there is no catching up later.

What is closed forever

Every MINECON cape, the Migrator cape, the Vanilla cape, the anniversary capes, the staff capes and all the contributor capes are retired. No code, purchase or support request will add one to your account.

This is the part people struggle with, because the capes remain visible on other players. Seeing one in game does not mean there is a way to obtain it.

Equipping a cape you already have

In Java Edition you choose which cape to display in the skin section of the Minecraft Launcher, or on your profile page on the Minecraft website. If you hold several capes, that is where you switch between them.

In Bedrock Edition capes live in the Capes section of the Character Creator.

Capes are visible to other players, and the equipped cape is exposed publicly through the Mojang API, which is how cape checking sites work.

The one thing that does move

A cape cannot be separated from the account that earned it. There is no trading, gifting or transferring, and third party mods that display a cape only show it to other people running the same mod.

What can change hands is the account itself. That is the entire reason accounts with retired capes carry a premium, and the reason those transactions need to be handled properly rather than agreed in a chat window.
