How Fragment worksthe official route
Fragment is Telegram own marketplace for collectible usernames and anonymous numbers. It opened on 27 October 2022 and runs on the TON blockchain.
What you need before you start
- A Telegram account, connected to Fragment.
- A TON wallet, which both holds your funds and signs the transactions. Tonkeeper is the one most people use.
- Toncoin in that wallet, because everything settles in TON.
How a sale is structured
An owner can either sell directly at a price they set, or put the asset to auction. Both routes are available at any time.
In an auction the seller sets a minimum bid, and can optionally set a maximum price that ends the auction instantly if someone pays it. The auction itself does not start on a timer: it begins when the first bid lands, and then runs for seven days.
What it costs
Fragment takes 5% of the sale, deducted from the proceeds. That is the only cut on a transaction.
Converting a basic username into a collectible is separate, and costs a one time fee of 5 TON. Transferring an asset you already own to another wallet is free beyond network costs.
Getting the handle onto your account
Buying it is not the last step. In My Assets you choose Assign to Telegram and pick the profile, group or channel it should attach to, then activate it in Telegram settings.
Until you do that, you own the username but nothing is using it.
Questions people ask
- Is Fragment official?
- Yes. It is Telegram own platform for collectible usernames and anonymous numbers, settling on TON.
- What happens if my bid arrives late?
- Bids are settled on chain. If your transaction reaches the blockchain after the auction has closed, you do not win and the funds are returned.
- Can I buy without an auction?
- Yes, if the owner has set a direct price. Otherwise the first bid opens a seven day auction.
- Can I sell anything I own there?
- Collectible usernames and anonymous numbers. A basic username has to be converted first.
